The well-known British designer Ron Arad presented his collection of outdoor chairs and lounge chair Modou in April 2019 in Milan, as part of the conceptional outdoor furniture M’Afrique e, in Moroso showroom, during the Milan design week 2019 and interior design fair - ISaloni 2019.
Each of Modou chairs looks like a pen stroke of a graphic artist – it embodies the elegance of which only metal is capable in hands of a master. Chairs and lounge chair seem to dance, and according to the designer, clearly convey the dynamism and cinematography.
The collection is named Modou after the metal master who, together with Ron Arad, created each piece in Dakar, Senegal. Metalworker Modou gave Ron Arad the opportunity to embody the idea of graphicity and created every object with him. The Modou collection is not ethnic or ordinary furniture, it is a metaphor of an amazing journey that loops around Africa.
Furniture pieces have a metal frame coated with a rust prevention. The seats and backrests are woven by hand from polyethylene cords used traditionally in Africa for fishing nets.
The Modou collection is made entirely by hand by Ron Arad and Modou at the design M’Afrique Atelier of Moroso, in Dakar, Senegal.
