Italian designer Luca Nichetto, inventive, creative and tireless, has designed the collection of lamps and candles Fusa from Murano glass for Swedish brand Svenskt Tenn. Murano glass, in the whole picturesque variety of bright colors!
Lamps of different sizes are made of glass debris collected from different manufacturers on the island of Murano – the kingdom of glass art. They are hand made by craftsmen in the glass production NasonMoretti, opened in 1923.
Although Luca Nichetto himself was born and raised on the island of Murano, not only beautiful pieces of Murano glass inspired him to create a striking combination of forms of lightings and candles, but also classic Scandinavian design - Terrazzo print on textile designed by Josef Frank. This is one of only two prints created by Joseph Frank, depicting the inanimate world - stylized compositions of stones and shells. Joseph Frank created it in 1944 and presented it to the founder of Svenskt Tenn – Estrid Ericson on her birthday.
“When I saw the Terrazzo print, my first thought was that the stones in the motif look exactly like mosaics and Murano glass. I highlighted the different formations, merged them and gave them new life in the form of lighting,” says Luca Nichetto.
The collection of lamps and candles Fusa presented at the exhibition of Heritage (“Heritage”), which is dedicated to the historical exhibition of objects from Murano, organized by the founder of Svenskt Tenn, Estrid Ericson, in 1930-ies, and Luca Nichetto.
The exhibition runs from February 5 to March 31, 2019, in Stockholm, in Svenskt Tenn showroom at Strandvägen 5.
